Each weight division will be broken up by experience level. Experience should be calculated on any grappling experience, not just BJJ. If you wrestled or competed in MMA, you need to consider that as you determine your division.

Gi Experience Levels (taken from BJJ Belt System):

White Belt: no more than 2 years of total grappling experience.
Blue Belt: up to 4 years of grappling
Purple Belt
Brown Belt
Black Belt

No Gi Experience Levels:

Novice: Less than 6 months of training
Beginner: 6 months – 2 years of training
Intermediate: 2 – 5 years of training
Advanced: 5 or more years of training

Weight Classes (Weight in lbs)

Youth Weight Classes: up to 50, 51 to 60, 61 to 70, 71 to 85, 86 to 100, 101 and up

Teen Weight Classes: under 100, 100 to 115, 116 to 125, 126 to 140, 141 to 155, 156 to 170, 171 to 185, 186 to 205, 205 and up

Women’s Weigh Classes: up to 125, 126 to 135, 136 to 150, 151 to 180, 180 and up

Men’s Weight Classes: up to 135, 136 to 145, 146 to 155, 156 to 170, 171 to 185, 186 to 205, 206 to 265, 265 and up

Absolute Tournament

We will also be hosting a Absolute Tournament with a cash prize. Each entry must pay $50 for the tournament, and an additional $50 that will go into a winner takes all pool.

You may also register the day of the tournament. Weigh ins will begin at 9am and continue until 11am. The rules meeting will take place at 1030am and the matches will start by 11am. Please do not be late. Kids and Teen Divisions will go first, followed by the adult weight divisions and finishing with the absolute division.

Divisions will be bracketed at the event. Please use this as a guide, but realize that some divisions may be changed to accommodate a fair competition with several matches per division.

Youth Matches will be split into two categories:
Position only and Submission. The position only division is a requirement to compete in the submission division. The submission division will be optional….

Teen and adult matches will be submission based.

Youth Age and Weight Divisions.

Youth divisions will be set up based on age and weight.

Age guidelines: up to 6 yrs, 7 & 8 yrs, 9 & 10 yrs, 11 & 12 yrs. Anyone over 12 will be placed in the teen division or the weight division.

Weight guidelines: up to 65lbs, 66-80lbs, 81-100lbs, 100 and up.

Adult Age and Weight Divisions.
Age Guidelines: 13-17yrs, 18+, (we will have a master’s division if enough competitors show up)
Weight Guidelines: up to 145lbs, 146-155lbs, 156-170lbs, 171-185lbs, 186-205lbs, 205 and up, Absolute (all weights)

Each match will be scored with the exception of the initial round of the Adult Absolute matches.

Scoring is based on the following point scale:

Takedown to control: 2 points
Dominant Top Position: 2 points
Sweep from Guard or Half Guard: 3 points
Weak Submission Attempt: 1 point
Strong Submission Attempt: 2 points

At the end of the round, the grappler with the most points or who submits his or her opponent will win and move on to the next bracket.

Each match will have a time limit. The time limits will vary based on division.

All Youth matches are 3 minutes.
Novice and Beginner Matches will last 4 minutes.
Absolute matches are 10 minutes without points followed by a 4 minute overtime with points if necessary.

We have may different classes available and would love for you to train with us as well.

Although having just a few months experience, the Redline MMA youth students did great scoring point after point by taking down their opponents and moving to dominant positions.

The First Division, No-gi by weight, finished with Matthew winning 1st in his weight group and Mahea taking a close second in her division.

The second division, No-Gi by age had a similar outcome but this time, Matthew took 1st, Wai took 3rd, and Mahea took 3rd.

The third division was Gi by weight. This time Matthew took 2nd place, and Mahea again placed 3rd.

The fourth and final division concluded the tournament with Matthew once again finishing 1st.

We look forward to the next tournament on May 22nd. We should have several other children from the class also competing in this tournament, and we look forward to the chance at bringing home lots of medals.

Local Professional Fighter Demetrice Turner has recently been accepted to Wanderlei Silva’s Professional Fight Team.

Demetrice travelled with friend and fellow fighter Zach Walters to Las Vegas last week to try out for the team. The fighters were evaluated on several different areas including striking power and technique, wrestling ability, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu knowledge and experience. Both men were accepted based on this criteria and are still in Vegas discussing training options now.

Demetrice has trained very hard for his career and hopefully will go very far in the sport. Being a long time member of Redline MMA, he has been in many mixed martial arts competitions and grappling tournaments and is undefeated as a pro at this time. We look forward to him moving forward with his career and will push him to success as he looks on to his time with Wanderlei’s Fight Team.
